Human ServicesThe Human Services Department funds and operates programs and services that meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable people in our community — families and individuals with low incomes, children, domestic violence and sexual assault victims, homeless people, seniors, and persons with disabilities. We invest in programs that help people gain independence and success, and work with other City of Seattle departments to support Mayor Greg Nickels’ efforts to build strong families and healthy communities. What's New2008 Biennial Report - Toward Safety and Justice: Domestic Violence in Seattle. This report aims to raise public awareness of all aspects of domestic violence – what it is, who and how many people it affects, and how the community responds to domestic violence. H1N1 Influenza (swine flu). The H1N1 or swine flu is in the news again and health officials are expecting a second wave of H1N1 this fall. For the latest information and recommendations, please visit the City Council Housing and Economic Development Committee Proposes Amendment to Draft 2010 Update to the Consolidated Plan. The Housing and Economic Development Committee will propose new language to be included, if approved by full Council in October 2009, that seeks to strengthen the link between low-income subsidized housing tenants and job training and education programs. DRAFT 2010 Update to the 2009-2012 Consolidated Plan now available for public comment. The Update guides allocation of over $19 million from four federal grants to address the housing, economic development and public services needs of low- and moderate-income and homeless individuals and families in Seattle. The Human Services Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) provides high-level policy direction and recommendations for investments in human services. The SIP is used to set investment priorities, guide budget decisions, and select the most effective strategies to meet our mission. An annual status report on the implementation of the SIP was recently presented to the City Council. 2008 Annual Report - The Seattle Human Service Department's 2008 Annual Report provides key highlights and information about our programs and services in 2008, and stories about the people we serve.
