Risk Management Division

The Risk Management Division provides the citizens of Seattle with the following services:

• Investigates and adjusts claims filed by citizens who allege they have been damaged by the negligent act of the City or its employees.
  
• Advises City departments on ways to reduce or avoid losses.
  
• Reviews City department contract work scopes to specify appropriate insurance and indemnification language.
  
• Administers all of the City’s liability, property insurance policies and its self-insurance program.

How do I file a claim for damages against the City?

Claims for damages against the City must be filed with the City Clerk within the applicable statute of limitations. Claims must be filed on the official Claim for Damages form. You can use the City's claim form or the standard Tort Claim Form.
