Green New Deal

In 2019, Seattle passed the Green New Deal Resolution (Res 31895).and Green New Deal Executive Order (EO-2020-01) directing all City departments to work together with the Green New Deal Oversight Board, the Environmental Justice Committee, and other key stakeholders to reach the goal of eliminating all city climate pollution by 2030.

This bold leap towards a climate pollution-free city aims to create jobs and advance an equitable transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy by prioritizing investments in communities historically most harmed by economic, racial, and environmental injustices.

Funded by the Payroll Expense Tax, the Green New Deal for Seattle is investing in direct support to frontline communities that bear the brunt of the climate crisis by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building a climate workforce, and building community resilience to climate change.
