Map of Denny Substation upgrades work

Project Description

The Denny Substation, energized in May 2018, is a long-term asset for City Light’s entire system, providing reliability and flexibility through the ability to back up adjacent substations. In 2021-2022, City Light is making upgrades to the Denny Substation property. There will be two areas of work: the concrete ramp on the east side of the building and the tenant space at the southeast corner of the building. Please see the map above for more information.

Location

Denny Substation's address is 1250 Denny Way, Seattle, WA 98109. It is located on Denny Way between Minor Ave. N and Yale Ave. N.

What's Happening Now?

Project Update (December 2023): The east ramp work has been completed. Work inside the SE tenant space has been completed.

Denny Substation Tenant Space

Community Benefits

  • The modifications to the East Ramp will ensure ADA compliance, completing the walking loop around Denny Substation.
  • The work in the southeast tenant space will provide the mechanical, electrical, power components, and architectural finishes and furnishings needed for our nonprofit tenant, YouthCare, to begin using the space.

Anticipated Impacts

  • Crews will be demolishing the existing concrete ramp to make way for the new ramp construction.
  • There will be daytime noise from the demolition and other construction activities.
  • Crews will be using the alley between John St. and Denny Way to deliver concrete and other construction materials. Access to the alley will be restricted during this work.
  • There are no outages planned for this work.
