Federal Emergency Rental Assistance

Seattle Public Utilities recently received federal funds to aid eligible customers needing additional assistance to pay their SPU bills per the Emergency Rental Assistance program. Those who qualify may receive up to $3000.00, towards balances owed on their account that accrued due to the COVID-19 outbreak.


The following criteria will determine if a household is eligible for federal emergency assistance program:

  1. Households must have already received both pledges via SPU's Emergency Assistance Program (EAP) in 2021
  2. The person(s) requesting assistance must be a Tenant with an SPU or SCL account in your name
  3. Have been past due on rent or are delinquent on your utility bill during the COVID-19 outbreak or may have experienced homelessness or housing instability
  4. At least one member of the household can say yes to one of the following:
    • Has qualified for unemployment benefits
    • Has experienced a reduction in household income
    • Has incurred significant costs due directly or indirectly to the COVID-19 outbreak
    • Has experienced other significant costs due directly or indirectly to COVID-19 outbreak
  5. Based on the number of people in your home, your household income should be at or below the amount listed in the chart shown below:

This application is to be completed by the customer requesting additional emergency assistance for their Seattle Public Utilities bill due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Applications are processed in the order they are received.
