Cal Anderson Play Area Renovation

Updated: November 1, 2022

Fall 2022

To increase project efficiency, this project was bundled with two other play areas (West Arboretum Tot Lot and Soundview Terrace) and put out to bid. We awarded the construction contract for all three projects to LW Sundstrom, Inc. This contractor is in high demand. We will be issuing the notice to proceed within the next 30 days and anticipate construction beginning the first quarter of 2023.

This project will replace the aging play equipment and repair/replace the play area surfacing. The new play equipment will meet current national safety standards and assure accessibility to children of all abilities, ages 2-5 and 5-12. Access to the play area will be improved, if needed, to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

During construction the contractor will need to close the play area. Seattle Parks and Recreation and the contractor hired for the project will work to minimize impact to the neighborhood.
