Parks Design and Construction Standards
Seattle Parks & Recreation (SPR) Standards provide design and construction guidelines for Seattle Parks' facilities. These standardized requirements have proved successful during the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of Seattle Parks' facilities.
These Standards are intended as a library of options for individual park design conditions. In certain situations additions, deletions or deviations may be acceptable if approved by the Parks Engineer and/or Construction Manager during the design review process. Documents are updated frequently, but without a set schedule, and there may be lag between when standards are updated and when they are publicly posted herein. The Consultant must refer to this site at the start of each project and verify that all contract documents created for a given project reflect use of the most current Standards. Do not copy information from past projects.
These Standards may not cover every facet of design or construction applicable to a project. In such case the Designer must develop unique specification sections, adhering to current CSI-Masterformat numbers and titles, and matching other SPR specification section templates in terms of formatting. The Designer shall also ensure that the Table of Contents is correctly revised to show all sections (and only those sections) that are actually utilized within a given project.
Before starting a new project the Consultant shall read and be familiar with the following:
- Information & Resources for Consultants
- SPR Survey and Mapping Standards
- AutoCAD Standard Drawing Template (.dwt)
- SPR Design Level Completion Criteria & Review Procedures
- SPR Proview Mission
- SPR Proview Application Form
- SPR Proview Process Flowchart
- SPR Proview Tech Written Guidelines
- SPR Proview Tech Process Flowchart
- SPR Final Project Review Flowchart
- Project Manual Cover Sheet & TOC
- Project Manual Section Divider Sheets
Design Standards
The following documents shall be used for information purposes only. They include typical guidelines and practices to be read and implemented by the Consultant during the design process.
These documents include park site and building design guidelines and items such as site furnishings options, with attached options images. They shall be used as the basis for formulation of additional design work and the preparation of the associated technical specifications.
Several of the Design Standards need to be accompanied by a Maintenance & Utility Impact Report that quantifies expectations in terms of utility usage and operations/maintenance costs for the proposed concept(s).
