Councilmember David J. Della

SEATTLE- Councilmember David Della released the following statement regarding the tragic death of Tatsuo Nakata:

Over the two years we’ve worked together, Tatsuo Nakata has become a member of my family. While his untimely death leaves a void in my office, it will leave a much larger void in my life.

Tatsuo was like a son to me. He was my closest confidante at City Hall and a trusted advisor.

Throughout the day at the hospital, my wife, Odette, and I witnessed an outpouring of love for him that is a testament of how much he meant to so many after just a short time in Seattle. He was an inspiration to his friends and a mentor to a new generation of leaders.

His accomplishments went far beyond his 29 years. He had a unique gift of bringing various communities together for the betterment of our city. Although his biological family is far away, Seattle had become his second family.

He was a generous and loving person. Even in death, he will be giving life to others through donation of his vital organs. He was a young man destined to do great things and our community lost that promise today. We will miss him dearly, but he will never be forgotten by those he touched during his life.
