South Park Public Safety Task Force
Implement Pedestrian and Bicyclist safety along S Cloverdale St
Similar to the work in Georgetown via the Reconnect West Seattle Home Zones program, SDOT completed a number of safety improvements in South Park. Some major highlights include: upgraded the crossing at 10th Ave S and 12th Ave S, lowering the speed limit as you approach the neighborhood sections of South Park and included radar speed signs, and upgraded stop bars and signage at 14th and Cloverdale and installed left-turn pockets and protected left turns at 7th and Cloverdale.
Next milestone: In 2023, SDOT has plans to upgrade all pedestrian scaled lighting on Cloverdale and 4th to replace sodium filled bulbs with LED, add lights near the Skate Park and Cesar Chavez Park, and install a railing between 7th and 8th Avenues to protect pedestrians.
Duwamish River Trail/8t Ave S. Trail Improvements
SDOT partnered with community organizations like Duwamish Valley Youth Corps to complete much-needed trail clearing from W Marginal Way S into South Park. Additionally, SDOT included wayfinding signage and trail connection with asphalt to guide where people bike on the trail.
