Hiring for Participatory Budgeting

The City of Seattle is launching one of the largest participatory budgeting programs in the nation. The Seattle Office for Civil Rights has contracted the Participatory Budgeting Project to lead this work. 

As community engagement is an essential piece of a PB process, the Participatory Budgeting Project is looking to build a team of Seattle based people to directly engage Seattle residents and communities throughout this process. They are looking for local leaders with a strong understanding of and commitment to Seattle neighborhoods and community spaces. They are currently hiring for all Seattle positions. 

  • Seattle Community Engagement Director

    The Seattle Community Engagement Director is responsible for the strategic development and management of community engagement for the 2022-2023 Seattle PB process. This role works closely with communications & marketing team/support to implement marketing campaigns to provide consistent and timely messaging and updates to the community. Work is carried out independently and in collaboration with the Seattle team and the full PBP staff under supervision of PBP Co-Executive Director, Kristania De Leon.

  • Seattle Community Engagement Manager

    The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for supporting outreach and community engagement in key Seattle neighborhoods for the 2022-2023 City of Seattle, WA Participatory Budgeting process. This position coordinates outreach and engagement events, approaches and liaises with local partners and community members to address local needs, and supports the day-to-day elements of the process with PBP staff. This position will also convene at least one working group focused on outreach and equitable community engagement in the PB process. The Seattle Participatory Budgeting Community Engagement Director will supervise this position to ensure appropriate local collaboration, process facilitation, and offer other support.

  • Seattle Participatory Budgeting Coordinator

    The Seattle PB Coordinator supports the Seattle PB team to implement and manage the operational and programmatic infrastructures needed to implement the 2022-2023 City of Seattle, WA PB process. The Seattle PB Coordinator collaborates with the full PBP team to execute administrative needs such as event/meeting planning and logistics, coordinating and providing support for community engagement, contract and vendor management, and procuring supplies. Additionally, this role works closely with the PBP Operations Coordinator to ensure activities follow PBP policies and protocols, procurement of expenses and tracking payments for the project.

  • Seattle People’s Fellowship Manager

    The Seattle People’s Fellowship Manager helps lead a 9-month program (The People’s Fellowship) that immerses young people, ages 14-21, across Seattle in the best practices of participatory democracy & applies their knowledge in real world scenarios. This role supports groups by developing new leaders, transfers knowledge between generations, & guides teams through decision-making, providing skills for successful and creative solutions in support of social change work.

These positions are full time contract funded roles with a tentative timeline through the end of June 2023. Candidates must be based in Seattle, WA. These positions are for hiring with the Participatory Budgeting Project and not the City of Seattle.
