SEATTLE — The public is invited to join Mayor Greg Nickels for a celebration and ribbon-cutting on Saturday, June 7 to dedicate the new outlook and plaza at the Salmon Bay Natural Area. The event will be held from 2–4 p.m. in Ballard, at 3415 Seaview Ave. NW, located west of the Ballard Locks and just east of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad bridge.
The event will be held outdoors in the plaza. In addition to Mayor Nickels speakers will include Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Director Stella Chao, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Seattle District Commander Col. Mike McCormick, and King County Councilmember Larry Phillips. Participants will enjoy an outdoor barbeque, live music, and informational exhibits from local organizations.
The event celebrates a unique partnership between the City of Seattle and Groundswell NW, a Ballard non-profit dedicated to creating and protecting parks and habitat. Working together with federal and regional funding partners, the partners have ensured that the last substantially undeveloped piece of shoreline in Ballard is protected as high quality salmon habitat.
In addition to providing more than 1.3 million customers in the Seattle metropolitan area with a reliable water supply, Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) provides essential sewer, drainage, solid waste and engineering services that safeguard public health, maintain the City’s infrastructure and protect, conserve and enhance the region's environmental resources.
