45th Avenue South between South Cloverdale Street and South Trenton Street:

The SDOT Sidewalk Development Program has started construction on a pilot shared street on 45th Ave S between S Cloverdale St and S Trenton St. The concept of a shared street, somewhat similar to the European woonerf, is for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists to all use the same space rather than constructing a sidewalk separated from the roadway. Parking spaces and landscaped areas will help delineate the roadway. One key element of this project is to calm traffic on this street so that motorists will drive slowly, at a speed that is conducive to a shared space. This project originally developed as a typical sidewalk project, however limited space and an interest in traffic calming from residents led to this concept. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-November.
