Lander Festival Street

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is creating a Festival Street on S Lander Street between 16th Ave S and 17th Ave S. This street will serve as an extension of the plaza north of the Beacon Hill Sound Transit station and provide a space for community festivals and events. Removable bollards will allow the roadway to be closed to motor vehicles during events.

This project was requested by the North Beacon Hill Community Council through the Bridging the Gap Neighborhood Street Fund (NSF). NSF is a community-based program that is administered by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) and funded by the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006. 

Improvements include:

• Constructing a new roadway with decorative pavers at the same level as the existing sidewalks to create a “curb-less” street
• Adding bollards and other side treatments to delineate the roadway surface with the street is open to vehicles
• Installing pedestrian-scale lighting

Construction is scheduled to occur in Fall 2009.

What to Expect During Construction

• Pedestrian detours
• Road closure of S Lander St between 16th Ave S and 17th Ave S
• Moderate to high construction noise and dust for a short period of time
• Typical work hours 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM - Monday thru Friday
