Seniors Training Seniors
in Computer Basics

Carol Ballard, Wallingford Instructor   Eileen and Walt

Seniors Training Seniors in Computer Basics (STS) offers beginning classes for seniors to learn computer basics, e-mail and the Internet in a safe and fun environment.  Classes are taught in a wide variety of locations during the day. Classes are small and fill quickly. They run from September through June.  Call Patti-lyn Bell at 206.684.0639 to find out about the best class and location for you and to sign-up. [See a list of locations or types of classes below.] There may be a nominal charge of approximately $15, depending upon location and need; please inquire when calling.  If you are looking for work, Seniors Training Seniors can help you improve your skills for employability.

This program was developed by the Department of Information Technology's Community Technology Program and is now brought to you by the Seattle Human Services Department and the Mayor's Office for Senior Citizens.

All classes are taught by seniors and intended for seniors only. No computer experience is necessary.  The online portion of student training begins with hands on exercises to develop basic 'mousing' skills.

Instructors Needed and Welcome

If you are over 50 and would enjoy bringing other seniors into the "wired world", why not become one of our trained Volunteer Lead Instructors?  Assistants may be under 50 years old.   If you have good basic computing and would like to join us in helping others, please call Patti-lyn at (206) 684-0639, or send an email to patricia.bell@seattle.gov.

Class Information

Participants are requiredto attend eight hours of training running over 2 or 4 days as each class builds on the information from the prior day's lesson.  Our instructors and assistants work closely with students until they feel comfortable with the computer.  Many seniors enjoy taking the class more than once.
