Code Corrections - Accomplishments

Project Outcomes

On September 21, 2015, the 2014 / 2015 omnibus legislation, Ordinance 124843, became effective.

The ordinance amended the Land Use Code (Title 23) and related land use regulations in Chapters 3.58, 25.05, 25.06, and 25.08 to clarify and improve the function of various rules. Our amendments generally included “clean-up” amendments that corrected inadvertent clerical errors and incorrect cross-references, and clarified existing code language. The need for these amendments was identified by residents, elected officials, and City staff.

Key Milestones

  • DPD published the environmental determination (SEPA) on January 8, 2015, including a public review draft of the ordinance
  • On July 7 the City Council Planning, Land Use, and Sustainability (PLUS) Committee held a briefing
  • The PLUS Committee held a public hearing on the legislation at their meeting on July 21, 2015
  • The City Council adopted the final ordinance on August 17, 2015

Project Purpose

  • Clarify regulations to be consistent with the City Council’s original intent
  • Provide consistency and predictability for neighbors and permit applicants
  • Correct inadvertent clerical errors and incorrect cross-references, and clarify existing Code language
