Updated: February 26, 2024

February 2024

We are so excited to be opening this park soon!

Please join us on February 29 for a community ribbon-cutting event. Leap into your new play area and meet your neighbors from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The project is focused on installing new play equipment and improving access to the play area. The project has a forest theme with new ‘Nature Play’ play equipment, swings, picnic tables, plus improved accessibility. This design is based on the feedback we heard from our community meeting and two surveys.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the public process and thank you for your support and cooperation during construction. We heard a preference for nature play, a stronger connection to the surrounding wooded area, and the need to create a safer environment. Based on this, we developed the following concepts.

Location

Dearborn Park: 2919 S Brandon Street, 98108

Budget

The Real Estate Excise Tax fund provides $557,000 for planning, design, and construction of the project.

Schedule

Planning & Design: Spring 2020 - Spring 2023
Construction: Late Summer 2023 - Winter 2023/2024
Completion: Spring 2024

Project Description

This project replaces the play equipment with equipment that is accessible to children of all abilities. Additionally, site accessibility improvements that meet the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will be made.

During construction, the contractor will need to close the play area portion of the park. Seattle Parks and Recreation and the contractor hired for the project will work to minimize the impact on the neighborhood.
