Community Planning

Community Planning is community engagement. We work with everyone who lives, works, plays and visits local neighborhood areas. We work with communities throughout Seattle. We partner with other agencies to create plans and strategies for:

  • Neighborhoods that are thriving and healthy
  • Equitable development approaches that avoid displacement and add affordable housing and commercial spaces, with a special emphasis on communities of color
  • Transportation systems that work for everyone, in partnership with transportation agencies
  • New buildings that contribute to our economy and to the livability of neighborhoods, city and region
  • Coordination of City investments in infrastructure, parks and public spaces, environment, historic and cultural features
  • Local social and organizational capacity to work for change

Our community planning work program is part of our overall work program. We prioritize our planning initiatives based on equity considerations, growth, and opportunities to coordinate investments on behalf of local neighborhood areas and the city as a whole.
