State Relations
The City's state lobbying team engages state legislators and the Governor's staff on issues of local and statewide significance. Their efforts are guided by the City's legislative agenda, which is proposed by the Mayor and adopted by the City Council before the start of each legislative session. In 2007, the team will focus on protecting our local revenue authority, funding for homeless services and transportation; education policy and funding, violence and crime prevention through gun safety measures, economic development and enhancing environmental protections.
With the leadership of Mayor Nickels, a Big City Mayors group meets three or four times a year on issues of mutual concern such as transportation and infrastructure improvements. Together, they promote their common agenda with the Governor, legislators and other jurisdictions around the state.
The state lobbyists work with the Association of Washington Cities and other organizations in the state of Washington to promote common interests.
