Why: A recent City study showed that Seattle industrial firms generate almost $30 billion in annual sales while providing more than 120,000 jobs with average wages of nearly $50,000 per year. But while fundamentally healthy, the industrial community also faces major challenges.

The Mayor's action agenda to support manufacturing and maritime businesses includes a pledge to protect industrial lands, to promote freight mobility, and to improve public services to industrial businesses through a new program called "Seattle First" and other initiatives.

Seattle First is cosponsored by the City of Seattle and the Manufacturing Industrial Council (MIC) of Seattle, a non-profit advocacy group for industrial businesses. "Seattle First" will help businesses gain access to services as part of a new City initiative to help industrial firms stay and grow in Seattle.

The summit is hosted by Viking Bank and supported by the City of Seattle, Manufacturing Industrial Council, the Seattle Marine Business Coalition and other groups.
