Mayor directs city flags lowered in memory of Sen. Kennedy
SEATTLE – Mayor Greg Nickels has directed all city of Seattle buildings to lower their flags to half-staff in memory of U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy, who died last night.
“Sen. Kennedy had a long and distinguished career in public service, benefiting all of us. It is with deep respect that we honor his memory by lowering our flags,” said Nickels.
In a proclamation issued today, President Barack Obama called Sen. Kennedy “one of the greatest senators of our time…With his passing, an important chapter of our American story has come to an end.” Read the proclamation.
The flags will be lowered until sunset Aug. 30 and returned to full-staff Monday morning.
