97th Clean & Green Seattle - South Park
- On Saturday, April 4, 2009, Mayor Greg Nickels led more than one-hundred and fifty (150) volunteers as they removed weeds from traffic circles, spread mulch along neighborhood streets and went door to door installing compact fluorescent light bulbs. 8,000 cfls were distributed. Volunteers also picked up litter. Community participants included Dr. Julian Perez, South Park Action Agenda, Board Member and Lora Suggs, South Park Action Agenda, Outreach Coordinator.
Seattle City Light’s Neighborhood Power Project and SPU’s 23rd Annual Spring Clean co-sponsored the event. Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Environmental Coalition of South Seattle, the Department of Corrections, Office of Emergency Management and Seattle Public Utilities also assisted in the effort. Removed 16,000 lbs (8 tons) of debris and 6,000 lbs (3 tons) of litter and refuse – a total of 22,000 lbs.

Cleaned up 136 Cubic Yards of leaves & debris, and 8 tons sand & road debris

Weeded and mulched 55 tree pits and curb bulbs

Eight (8) trees pruned (mostly large sucker removals)

6.5 yards of wood chips were spread along S. Cloverdale from 8th Ave S to 14th Ave S.

- 30 streetlights repaired
