Why does Seattle City Light help pay for business lighting upgrades?

We want to help our customers reduce energy waste. Energy-efficiency upgrades allow the utility to use the savings to meet other customers’ power needs. Conservation is a more cost-effective way to meet our electricity needs than alternatives such as building power plants.

Other projects also qualify for rebates

  • Exit signs. We will pay up to the full cost when an existing incandescent or fluorescent exit sign is replaced with an energy-efficient LED (light-emitting diodes) sign. pdf icon (Adobe PDF, 370K)

  • CFLs.  We will pay up to the full cost of replacing existing incandescent bulbs with commercial grade compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). pdf icon(Adobe PDF, 31K)

How to get the rebate

Applying for the Quick Lighting Upgrade rebate is simple! Here's what to do:
  1. Call Seattle City Light at 206-684-3800 or request a call from us.
  2. Work with a Seattle City Light energy analyst, who will evaluate your lighting project and estimate your rebate and energy savings.
  3. Secure authorization from Seattle City Light prior to starting work.
  4. Contact your lighting contractor or select one from our Trade Ally Network.
  5. Proceed with the installation and contact Seattle City Light for verification when work is complete. We’ll mail you a rebate check after our final verification. In some cases, the rebate can be directed to your contractor to help you with cash flow.

How to find a lighting contractor

If you don’t have a preferred lighting contractor, you can find one through our Emerald Trade Ally network. These contractors have previously participated in our lighting programs and can help you identify and qualify for energy conservation rebates.
  1. Visit our Trade Ally Network page
  2. Select "Search for an Ally."
  3. Complete a brief business profile.
  4. From the services list, select "Quick Lighting Upgrade Initiative."
  5. From the conservation technologies list, select "Lighting."
  6. Click Search and you will be supplied with a list of three lighting contractors.

Footnote: The Quick Lighting Upgrade rebate is a limited-time offer designed to pay up to 100% of the cost of specific energy conservation measures for typical installations. Seattle City Light will only pay for the portion of the project yielding energy conservation. For example, the program does not pay for installation costs that are not typical, additional electrical work to meet code, or electrical permits. In medium and large commercial and industrial facilities, at least 90% of the fluorescent lights must be in operation more than 2,000 hours per year to qualify for the rebate. Seattle City Light must approve the project prior to purchase or installation of equipment or materials. This program may change without notice and is subject to the availability of funds.
