Small and WMBE Business Outreach The City of Seattle is committed to increasing small business participation in City contracting opportunities. Ordinance 119603 encourages City departments to use affirmative efforts to solicit the participation of women- and minority-owned businesses (WMBEs) in all competitive contracting opportunities. City departments are to use all legal means to ensure that minority- and women-owned businesses do not face unfair barriers in competition for City contracts in successful performance of those contracts. Through Executive Order 01-02, Mayor Greg Nickels orders City departments to renew their outreach efforts to WMBE businesses. The Fair Contracting Practices Ordinance - SMC Chapter 14.10 prohibits discrimination in contracting practices between private businesses, and in the City of Seattle's contracting practices. For more information on these requirements, contact the Seattle Office for Civil Rights. Links to other contracting resources for small businesses are provided on this Web site. These links include information on City of Seattle programs, initiatives, and outreach efforts. Other links provide information on resources centers, loan programs, and organizations charged to help small business growth and development.
