Mayor Greg Nickels is focused on creating a vibrant, balanced, and diversified economy that benefits individuals across all income levels in Seattle. The Mayor and OED believe that the growth of Seattle's strategic industry sectors is critical to the future of the city's economy. OED is working collaboratively with leaders from key industry sectors to sustain a balanced and diverse economic base.

In 2002, the Mayor's Economic Opportunity Task Force recommended that the City of Seattle "develop targeted, pro-active strategies, partnerships, and programs to support and attract existing and new industries that are key to the city's job and tax base."

OED has taken this charge and strategically focused on the development and implementation of strategies and action plans to promote growth in these key industry sectors:
