Electrical Code

What Is It?

The purpose of the 2008 Seattle Electrical code is to promote public safety in a practical manner from hazards arising from the use of electricity. Our code does not provide design specifications and is not intended as an installation instruction manual. It applies to all electrical wiring and equipment, including communications systems, installed or used within Seattle. Some ship, railway, communication equipment, and electrical utility installations are specifically exempted from the code; see section 80.3 for details.

Proposed Changes

You can now download the draft 2014 Seattle Electrical Code ordinance. City Council and the Mayor will review our draft legislation, hopefully before the end of the summer. The effective date of the updated code will be determined by when the Mayor signs our legislation.
