Partnership Opportunities

For the past year, the City has worked with neighborhood representatives and the broader public to develop a vision for the future of the U District.  The Draft Urban Design Framework describes this process, guiding principles, and specific recommendations.

The working group that helped develop these recommendations includes residents, business owners, the faith community, social service providers, developers, and the University of Washington.  Topics include:

  • Public space – how can parks, streets, and other public spaces better serve the needs of a growing community?
  • Land use and height – what kinds of growth does the community want, and how can land use regulations help achieve those goals?
  • Mobility – with light rail on the way, what are the smartest ways to improve infrastructure for all modes of transportation

Over the next two years, the U District Urban Design Framework will inform important decisions relating to zoning, design standards, and street design.  Now is a great time to get involved and help us understand your vision for the U District.
