Southwest Board Members

Joseph Hurley
Position: Community Representative
Term: First
Term expires: April 4, 2010
 

Joseph Hurley is owner and principal of his own design firm, Joseph Hurley Architects. Previously, he worked as a project architect for James Cutler Architects, Johnston Architects, and Driscoll Architects, including serving as the lead designer for Fremont Lofts, a project the city has identified as a great example of design. He is very familiar with the design review program, attending meetings as a member of the public, or as an applicant giving presentations. He is a member of three community groups in Wallingford: the Quality of Life Board, the Land-Use Board, and Friends of Wallingford Playfield. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon and a bachelors degree from Georgetown University.


Robin Murphy
Position: Design Professional Representative

Robin Murphy Design Review Board

Robin Murphy is a principal of the architectural firm of Stricker Cato Murphy and Associates. He leads the firm’s long term planning, strategic vision and personnel management. He has over 20 years of experience in architecture and management and has worked on a broad range of projects, including mixed use, theaters, residential, high rise, retail, institutional and industrial developments. He has volunteered as an architectural critic at the University of Washington’s School of Architecture and as a coach for Special Olympics. He is a LEED accredited professional, a member of the American Institute of Architects, and is certified by the NCARB. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in architecture from the University of Washington.

 

Brandon Nicholson
Position: Development Representative

Term expires: April 4, 2010
 

Brandon Nicholson is a principal architect at Nicholson Kovalchick Architects. His firm specializes in urban infill multifamily housing and development consulting. He is also a managing partner of a development company undertaking mixed-use projects in Seattle. He is a member of the West Seattle Junction Business Association and the Admiral Neighborhood Association. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and has a Bachelor of Environmental Design in Architecture degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

 


Norma Tompkins

Position: Local Residential Representative
Term: First
Term expires: April 4, 2011
 
Norma Tompkins Design Review Board Norma Tompkins has ten years of experience as a production designer at Starbucks. She has worked on stores in Latin America, North America and China. Previously, she worked in Bellevue and Tukwila designing custom homes. She was an apartment manager in Ballard. She was a member of La Casa de Artes, which promoted Latino arts and culture in Seattle. She has volunteered for Consejo's Domestic Violence Program, teaching English to Spanish-speaking women. She has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from La Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas in Mexico and is a registered architect in Mexico. She is a Sustainable Building Advisor as well.
Christie Coxley
Position: Local Business Representative
Term: Second
Term expires: April 4, 2011
 

Christie Coxley is the principal of C2 Urban Garden Design, Inc., a landscape design build firm that is commited to sustainable design and organic maintenance. Previously, she was a Design and Art Director for Nordstrom’s marketing department. She is an Executive Board member and Secretary of the Southeast District Council, a member of the West Seattle Junction Business Association and President of the Lake Union Chapter of LeTip. She attended the University of Washington School of Landscape Architecture.

 

Myer Harrell
Position: Get Engaged Representative
Term: One-Year
Term expires: September 1, 2010
 
Myer Harrell Design Review Board get Engaged 2009-2010

Myer Harrell, Associate AIA, LEED AP is an architectural project coordinator at Weber Thompson. Myer has a strong interest in integrative design and systems thinking. He was a member of the team that won first place in the USGBC 2008 Natural Talent Design Competition and runner-up in Metropolis Magazine's 2009 Next Generation Design Competition. He is a Seattle Emerging Green Builder and co-chair of the Seattle AIA Practice/Ethics committee. He received his Master in Architecture degree at the University of Washington and his Bachelor of Science in Architecture at the University of Maryland.

Join the Design Review Board
In April 2010, the Mayor and City Council will appoint twelve new volunteer Design Review Board members to replace those retiring members whose terms are expiring. Applications are due December 10, 2009 for two-year terms that begin April 4, 2010. A list of the upcoming openings is in the appendix of the Design Review Board application.
