Office of Professional Accountability Review Board

Office of Professional Accountability Review Board On Monday, August 11, 2:00 pm, the Public Safety, Human Services, and Education Committee will consider seven nominations to the Office of Professional Accountability Review Board (OPARB), one part of the City’s system of police oversight. OPARB oversees the way the Office of Professional Accountability handles citizen complaints against Seattle police officers. The nominees are Tina Bueche, George Davenport, Sharon Dear, Steven Freng, Martha Nordberg, Patrick Sainsbury, and David Wilma. Councilmember Tim Burgess said, "Police accountability and oversight will be strengthened by these highly qualified individuals."

Fort Lawton

Fort Lawton

On Thursday, August 21, 5:30 p.m., the Council’s Housing and Economic Development Committee will hold a public hearing on the proposal to redevelop the Fort Lawton Army Reserve Center adjacent to Discovery Park in Magnolia. The Reserve Center is planned for closure by 2011. The City’s draft redevelopment plan attempts to balance several priorities, including open space, heron habitat, and 200 homes including market-rate homes and housing for formerly homeless individuals and families.

Read the draft plan.

Taxicab Legislation

Taxi On Monday, August 11, 2 p.m., the Full Council will take action on proposed taxi cab legislation that would improve customer service by increasing the number of taxi cab licenses available and reduce the industry’s carbon footprint by requiring all taxi cabs to be fuel efficient by 2013. According to Finance and Budget Chair, Jean Godden, "This legislation paves the way for a greener, more consumer-oriented industry."
