Council President Debora Juarez, as Chair of the Governance, Native Communities & Tribal Governments Committee, intends to hold a confirmation hearing, and possible vote, for Interim Director Kimberly Loving to become Director of the Seattle Department of Human Resources. The hearing in intended to take place at the next meeting of the committee, September 15 at 9:30 am. More detail to follow, once the committee’s agenda is posted.

Committee Scope:

To provide policy direction and oversight and to deliberate and make recommendations on legislative matters relating to:

regional, state, federal, and other governmental matters including Charter review, code improvement, the Office of Intergovernmental Relations, and rules of the City Council;
Native American issues, including housing affordability, health and mental health services, services for youth, access to justice, art and culture, and historic preservation; and
facilitating government to government relations with Tribes and coordinating public planning with Tribal governments on issues such as economic development, environmental stewardship, and sustaining and protecting indigenous culture, language and history;
coordinating and managing the Council’s work related to increasing communication between tribes and urban indigenous populations, including hearing recommendations from the Indigenous Advisory Council;
the City Auditor;
the Office of Hearing Examiner;
ethics and elections, including the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission;
the Office of Labor Standards;
monitoring implementation of the priority hire program and promoting worker protections;
City personnel issues, including labor-management relations, collective bargaining agreements, and other issues related to salary rates, hours, and other conditions of employment; and
the Office of the Employee Ombud.
