Welcome to the Department of Information Technology Web
Site
City government exists to serve the residents of Seattle. Increasingly, people
use technology – telephones, computers, e-mail, the world-wide-web, the
Internet – to contact their government for service. Elected officials
and City departments use the tools of technology – radios, telephones,
computers, software applications, the Web, television– to deliver service
to residents, and also to inform and involve constituents in the matters of
government. The Chief Technology Officer and Department of Information Technology
make sure these technology tools are up-to-date, efficient and effective in
the business of government – thereby making a difference in the lives
of the people of Seattle.

The Department of Information Technology's Mission:
We make technology work for the City.
The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) harnesses the power of computers
and telecommunications to help City government serve Seattle’s residents
and businesses. The Chief Technology Officer sets technology standards and
strategies to ensure City government uses technology tools efficiently, effectively
and wisely.
How the Department of Information Technology Addresses
the Mayor’s Priorities:
DoIT builds and operates a wide variety of technology tools and systems supporting
the missions of every department in City government in achieving the Mayor’s
priorities. We also support systems and policies that increase the convenience
and security of online customer transactions.
Get Seattle Moving
DoIT provides telephone, computer, radio and fiber optic networks to help the
Seattle Department of Transportation and other City departments monitor,
manage and control the movement of people and freight throughout the city.
Keep Our Neighborhoods Safe
DoIT installs and maintains networks that allow people to reach police, fire,
courts and law to request service, via 911 and other means. DoIT operates
technology to allow rapid, efficient dispatch of officers to requests for
service.
Create Jobs and Opportunities For All
DoIT works with the city’s schools, colleges, libraries, King County,
and other public agencies to build and operate networks that allow the people
of Seattle access to education, culture and life-long learning.
Build Strong Families and Healthy Communities
DoIT operates a community technology program to help ensure every constituent
has some access to computers and the Internet. The City’s technology
and network infrastructure – operated by DoIT – is used by every
department to deliver power, water, recreation, safety and human services
to the people of Seattle. The Seattle Channel and City’s Web site work
together to keep Seattleites informed, give them access to services, and
allow them to participate in governing.
