Project Description

Seattle City Light crews will be installing communications equipment on several utility tower structures along the Duwamish Waterway. The tower structures utilize lights as identifiers for air traffic. This upcoming work will automate the monitoring of these systems to ensure electrical reliability.

Location

Construction will occur in the following areas near the Duwamish Waterway:

  • SW Spokane St.
  • S Oregon St.
  • SW Peninsula Pl. / S Michigan St.

What's Happening Now?

Project Update (June 2023): This project is 33% complete. Remaining work is currently on hold.

Community Benefits

  • This project will automate the monitoring of the tower light system to ensure reliability of City Light's electrical system.

Anticipated Impacts

  • Crews will be using a boom truck and tools to install the communications equipment on the tower structures. Crews will be working on one tower structure at a time to install the equipment.
  • Parking and traffic impacts will be confined to each tower. In some cases, the tower structures are fenced off or located in private properties.
  • Maintenance power outages are not anticipated during civil construction.
  • Some construction noise is expected.

Schedule

  • Construction Start: March 2020
  • Duration: Work could occur until the end of 2020
  • Daily Work Schedule: 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
